EXPERIENCED … INNOVATIVE … RESPONSIVE … COMMITTED

“I’m a leader fully engaged with the community open to new ideas for the City. I respect the past, address the needs of today and position Williamsburg for the future.”

My strong work ethic and passion for Williamsburg has served me well as a member of City Council. I have a proven track record of getting the job done for Williamsburg residents - enhancing economic development initiatives to maintain our low property tax rate, investing in public safety and supporting housing supply to meet the demand.

Education – I served on the School Liaison Committee to be informed and have a knowledgeable voice representing residents and parents. I’m committed to a student-first system where all receive a first-class education to reach their full potential – deserved by all. I favor a new joint operating contract with James City County which provides direct funding to city schools to close the achievement gap identified in the city’s feasibility study. Best practices from other municipalities, innovative proposals from education experts and new programs should also be considered. City Council has a fiduciary responsibility and a moral and civic obligation to make improvements for accountable quality educational outcomes; we can’t return to the status quo. We should always remain open to new ideas and programs to further advance equitable opportunities for students to excel and to prepared for the jobs of today and the future.

My successful business career is helpful as the City Council liaison to the Economic Development Authority attracting new businesses to Williamsburg. It is an asset to promoting Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce and participating in the Women’s Business Council. My advocacy for the arts make me a natural choice as a liaison to our Public Art Council.

As a W&M alumna, I work to maintain strong town-gown relationships and foster long-lasting intergenerational connections with fellow alumni and students through efforts such as my “Break Bread with Barb” dinners. I strive to create networking and social opportunities for students, especially on campus. I believe in robust collaborations with William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg, our largest employers and economic drivers, on strategic initiatives and strive to enhance synergy between the university and the business community.

I’m firmly committed to representing Williamsburg’s needs, engaging in hundreds of events and meetings annually. It’s important for me to hear from residents to consider their views, interests, ideas and concerns when policies are contemplated.

I’m optimistic about Williamsburg and want to continue positioning our city for the future and see ventures such as a new library, live performance venue and downtown children’s park come to fruition.

My Vision and Priorities for Williamsburg

QUALITY EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES: Committed to finding accountable solutions to the achievement gap between Williamsburg students and their JCC counterparts. In favor of a joint operating system that allows the City to direct resources to our students and provide the best possible means for our students to thrive – which they deserve.

STRONG ECONOMY: Continue helping attract family-friendly businesses bringing jobs and investment. Continue working to provide affordable housing.

COMMUNITY VITALITY: Enhance quality of life for all residents with a sports & events center, new library, live performance venue, and children’s park

LOW TAXES: Preserve Williamsburg’s lowest property tax rate to fight impact of rising prices on Williamsburg families.

TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS – continue infrastructure improvements for better traffic flow, increased bike routes, user - friendly public transit and pedestrian safety initiatives
